Dr. Carla Craycraft

Biography:

Dr. Craycraft assumed her current position as Director of Agricultural Communication Services and Computing for the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture in January of 1995. She is responsible for overseeing approximately 50 employees representing computing and electronic technology, distance learning, publications, press, distribution services, and electronic media services for the UK College of Agriculture and the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service.

From April 1991 through December 1994, she served as the UKCA Coordinator of Distance Learning with the rank of first Associate Extension Professor, then Extension Professor. During this period, she received numerous awards for the College's distance learning efforts including a Telly, a Silver Screen Award from the International Field and Video Festival, and a TELCON Award. Dr. Craycraft also served as primary investigator or co-investigator of grant contracts totaling more than $275,000 during this period. She taught college courses including the Introduction to Animal Science by distance learning techniques to more than 2000 students both in Kentucky and other states and developed a series of programs for 4th ad 5th grade elementary school students seen nation wide via satellite and PBS stations.

From July 1981 through March 1991, Dr. Craycraft was a member of the UKCA Animal Science Department as both an Assistant and Associate Extension Professor with primary responsibilities as Beef Cattle Extension Specialist in Breeding and Genetics. In addition, she also managed the Kentucky Central Bull Test Station and taught several undergraduate courses in Animal Science.

Dr. Craycraft is a native of Connecticut and holds a B.S. in Animal Science from the university of Connecticut; M.S. in Animal Science and Ph.D. in Breeding and Genetics, both from Oklahoma State University.

Dr. Craycraft was one of the first women to receive the FFA American Farmer Degree (1973) and served as FFA State President and State Secretary of the Connecticut Association.
