Dr. Edward Hiler

Biography:
Dr. Edward A. Hiler has served as Vice Chancellor for Agriculture and
Life Sciences, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and
Director of Texas Agricultural Experiment Station at Texas A&M University
since 1992. In August of 1998 he assumed an additional role as Director
of Texas Cooperative Extension. In his present position as Vice Chancellor,
he provides overall leadership for the Agriculture Program which is an
organization of statewide agricultural agencies, divisions or colleges
of agriculture, life sciences, natural resources, human sciences and veterinary
medicine within the A&M System.
Prior to accepting his present responsibilities, Dr. Hiler served Texas
A&M University as Deputy Chancellor for Academic and Research Programs,
Executive Deputy Chancellor and Interim Chancellor. He served as Professor
and Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering at Texas A&M
University from 1974 to 1988, having previously served as Assistant Professor,
Associate Professor and Professor.
Dr. Hiler earned a bachelor of science, master of science and doctor
of philosophy degree in Agricultural Engineering from The Ohio State University.
He was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus of its College of Engineering.
He serves as a consultant on various aspects of water conservation, environmental
quality, energy from biological processes, and agricultural engineering
futuring perspectives. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
Dr. Hiler served as the President of the American Society of Agricultural
Engineers from 1991-92 and has served on the Board of Directors and the
Board of Trustees of the ASAE Foundation. Dr. Hiler is active in many
professional engineering and agricultural societies. He has been recognized
by his colleagues and peers with numerous educational and research awards,
and is the author or coauthor of more than 100 publications..
