Dr. Marc Johnson

Biography:
Marc Johnson is a leader in Kansas agriculture. Dr. Johnson, dean of
the College of Agriculture at Kansas State University as well as the director
of the Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service,
leads 60 teams with projects concerning everything from 4-H activities
to biotechnology experiments. He is responsible for the administration
of the total university teaching, research, extension, and international
programs in agriculture. In terms of budget, facilities, number of staff
and faculty, agriculture is the largest part of the university, and its
organization and impact extend statewide.
Dr. Johnson became KSU Dean of Agriculture in March 1994 after serving
as interim dean since September 1992. Prior to that time he served as
head of the Department of Agricultural Economics beginning in 1985.
Before coming to K-State, Dr. Johnson had experience at Oklahoma State
University and North Carolina State University in teaching, research,
and extension. The author of numerous scientific publications and articles,
he has done extensive research in the areas of marketing and transportation
systems and public policy economics.
Dr. Johnson is a native of Kansas. He was raised and employed on the
family fruit farm near Wichita. Johnson is a former Eagle Scout and a
member of many academic fraternities including Phi Kappa Phi, Gamma Sigma
Delta and Epsilon Sigma Phi. He is a member of the American Economics
Association, the Kansas Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers,
the Kansas Water Authority and the Kansas Wheat Commission, among others.
Johnson earned his bachelor's degree in biology from Emporia State University,
a master's of technology in international development in economics from
North Carolina State University and a master's in economics and a doctorate
in agricultural economics both from Michigan State University.
