My name is Jimi Kolawole. I am the new undergraduate assistant working
with Dr. McAlpin and Brad Paleg. I was born in the District of Columbia.
I attended a military school in Nigeria before I returned to the United
States in 1996. Presently, I am a senior pursuing a double degree
program in Computer Science and Govt. & Politics. Over the years,
I have become proficient in several programming languages such as
HTML, Java, C, C++, PERL, and JavaScript. I have received several
awards like the US NAVY NJROTC Bronze Award, Distinguished Citizen
of the Sons and Daughters of American Revolution. I am a scholar for
National Science Foundation Bridge Program and the UMCP College of
Computer, Mathematical, and Physical Science, and a HINMAN Entrepreneur.
I am a tutor for the UMCP Office for Multi-Ethnic Students. My long-term
goal in life is to be a public servant. I believe there is no better
form of service than public service. Upon graduation, I will be interested
in building a career in Software Development or Networking.
I am deeply interested on the Advanced Internet Satellite Extension
Project. The project will provide me an opportunity to combine my
knowledge as a programmer, tutor and politician. Politicians look
to provide what people want while programmers design, analyze, and
execute ideas. I am yet to learn as a amateur politician how to tell
people what they want to hear. I am also hoping the Satellite Extension
Project will provide a foundation for a professional career in Networking.
Most importantly, I am excited to be on the project because it is
about helping the less privileged.
