Dr. Scott Smith

Biography:
Dr. Scott Smith currently serves as dean of the College of Agriculture
at the University of Kentucky, and is responsible for all facets of the
College of Agriculture, including Extension, research and teaching.
Smith has served Kentucky agriculture since 1978, first as an agronomy
researcher, whose field of expertise was nitrogen in soils, then as chairman
of the agronomy department, and most recently as associate dean for research.
As chairman of the Department of Agronomy from 1989-1999, Dr. Smith coordinated,
planned and evaluated programs in research, undergraduate and graduate
teaching and Extension programs. The Department of Agronomy had 54 faculty
members and more than 200 employees in various capacities. In 1999, Dr.
Smith became associate dean for research, providing leadership for the
development of research faculty, evaluating research and graduate education
programs for the College, expanding extramural support for research and
coordinating the research activities of the College. He became dean of
the College of Agriculture in January 2001.
Dr. Smith holds B.A. and M.S. degrees from Cornell University and doctorate
from Michigan State University.
