ADEC Distance Education Awards
H. Dean Sutphin
Cornell University |
|
|
Dean was nominated for an ADEC Award by Daryl B. Lund, the Ronald
P. Lynch Dean of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He submitted the
nomination on behalf of the Strategic Planning Committee for
Distance Learning at Cornell.
Mr. Lund noted in the nomination:
"The strategic plan for distance learning in the College of
Agriculture and Life Sciences is based on educational theory and
practice. It extends the traditional resident instruction
program to one of a distance learning mode "on campus", "near
campus" and "far from campus". The strategic planning document
was written by a representative group within the College
including faculty, department representatives, representatives
from research, teaching and extension, and support staff
associated with electronic technology across the University.
........Dean Sutphin has presented the strategic plan at the
Academic Program Section summer work conference in San Luis
Obispo, California this past week. Dean received very positive
feedback from his colleagues across the country during the
discussion section and in conversations during the work
conference."

Kathleen Troutman
University of Delaware |
|
|
Kathleen was nominated "enthusiastically" for this award by Lesa
Griffiths, Associate Dean for Academic Programs, Sherry Kitto,
Professor of Plant and Soil Sciences and Mark Radosevich,
Assistant Professor of Plant and Soil Sciences.
They did a wonderful job of telling the story of her work after
receiving an ADEC program grant. Here is just a small piece of their
excellent write-up:
"At the time the project started, we were very techno-phobic and
only capable of word processing. When faced with live satellite
lectures, videotaped lectures, Power Point presentations and an
interactive web page, we were truly terrified. When we visited
the studio classroom with the satellite feed and video system and
found we would be faced with two computers, a document camera,
slide projector, microphone and our own faces staring back at us
from the monitor, we were paralyzed! Kath went into motion.
(they detail all the motions and conclude....) Kathleen
Troutman is a creative, confident 'teacher' of technology. She
is one of those rare individuals who is a motivator. She has a
very strong work ethic and positive attitude. She is willing to
brainstorm and share ideas and encourages you to experiment with
technology in a non-threatening environment."

| Tri-state Agricultural Distance Delivery Alliance (TADDA) |
|
|
This group was nominated for the award by Mike Burke. In his
nomination Dr. Burke noted that the initial "Tri-state
Agricultural Degree Consortium started in 1996 to serve
audiences unable to access upper division university courses due
to time or travel constraints has now developed into the
Tri-state Agricultural Distance Delivery Allianace (TADDA).
Current membership includes OSU, UI, WSU, Eastern Oregon
University, Blue Mountain Community College, Walla Walla
Community College and Treasure Valley Community College. As a
group TADDA will have approximately 70 courses ready for delivery
by the Fall of 1999 - an outstanding achievement."
