Guidelines for Articulation of Distance Courses Offered Through ADEC
These guidelines are for articulation of courses offered
through ADEC by member institutions and closely related colleges and universities. The
guidelines relate to uniform standards for transferring distance agricultural, natural
resource, veterinary and human science course credits among member institutions.
The ADEC consortium is a mechanism for delivery of distance
courses. As such it will provide coordination of course delivery, consultation to users and a
collective voice for program planning and development among the participating institutions.
ADEC will facilitate in this process by establishing and maintaining a central data base and
web-site. ADEC publishes "good practice" suggestions for distance education courses that have
been developed in various academic organizations and journals. ADEC also opens the door to
many international opportunities which includes sending and receiving courses. In a world
grown increasingly small, international exchange of course materials will become more
important.
Faculty throughout the system are encouraged to consider
distance delivery of appropriate courses. In addition to institutional resources to assist
in moving toward this mode of delivery, ADEC offers an important source of information and
services. ADEC and the institutional affiliates strongly encourage faculty participation in
the consortium activities.
WHEREAS there is rapid growth of distance delivery
courses and course offerings will undoubtedly increase in the next decade; and
WHEREAS the community of ADEC institutions can advance
much more rapidly together than can individual institutions working alone; and
WHEREAS ADEC provides a means through which institutions
can work together in establishing new courses of study or in the revision of existing courses
offered at member institutions; and
WHEREAS there is need to provide a vehicle for the
dissemination of information on courses, curricula, and transfer arrangements between ADEC
institutions;
Now, it is therefore resolved by the ADEC member
institutions that:
- Each ADEC institution offering undergraduate and graduate studies in agricultural,
natural resources, veterinary and human sciences will share transfer policies on use of
distance delivery courses.
- Information on changes in distance delivery courses offered through ADEC, or
policies should be shared immediately with the institutions affected through the ADEC
web-site and other appropriate mechanisms. Institutions are responsible for
providing information to update the ADEC web-site and keep the information current.
- Each institution offering a distance course through ADEC will produce evidence that
the course meets the quality standards of the offering institution and be useable for
credut in the offering institution. ADEC will provide for fair and equitable peer
evaluation of courses for transfer credit on request of the offering institution.
- Receiving institutions are responsible for evaluating and approving courses
offered through ADEC.
Academic deans pledge their support of distance education and
will help facilitate in the development and use of distance delivery approaches.
