On September 23, 2003, Washington State University (WSU) and ADEC presented a live video program from the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI) 50th Annual Conference on September 23, 2003 at the Umatilla Reservation in Oregon. In 1953 farsighted tribal leaders in the Northwest formed ATNI under the goals of tribal sovereignty and self-determination. Fifty years later, ATNI is a nonprofit organization representing 54 Northwest tribal governments from Oregon, Idaho, Washington, southeast Alaska, Northern California and Western Montana. Member tribe representatives set policy and direction through committees (including education, technology, and economic development) by way of resolutions drafted during the three yearly meetings. This year ATNI, WSU, and ADEC provided the following interviews that were broadcast live over the ADEC network in a multicast format.
