Today we conducted H.323 video tests between two CPEs. One is the
fixed OARNet CPE and the other is our trailer-mounted system. This
phase of the testing is now complete.
The remaining phase is to do a multipoint test. We would like to do
that this Friday Sept 6 at 1 PM EDT. We have the equipment and people
all ready to go. Is that possible?
Some preliminary and yet-to-be-confirmed results are that the
software update that Tachyon installed in all CPEs this past week
seems to have made a significant improvement.
1. The CPE ethernet interface now goes up to 100 Mb full duplex,
whereas it previously went to only 10 Mb half duplex. This reduces
congestion on the local LAN, if you are using a device that can
operate at 100 Mb full duplex. A Polycom model FX can do this, and we
found zero packet loss from the San Diego router to the local FX
Viewstation connected to the trailer CPE. But we found 3 % loss to
a model 128 Viewstation connected to the fixed CPE which can only do
10Mb half duplex. More later on this.
2. The video is quite good from CPE to CPE. Better than we expected.
