Repairing Your Chaparral Brand Remote Control

Reports are beginning to come in about Monterey remote controls which are wearing out. If the problem is limited to keys in your keypad which do not work, there is an inexpensive fix: you can replace the keypad!

Chaparral Technical Service (408/435-3088) will sell you a new keypad (part number 4566) for $8.33, and they say that you can replace it yourself. The instructions: remove the two screws from the back of your remote control, then take it apart by carefully prying the two body pieces of the remote apart at the seam. They recommend prying on the seam at the heel (number pad) end first. It should pop apart. Remove the old keypad, put in the new one, snap it back together, and re-install the screws.

One catch: the minimum parts order is $25, which will buy three of the keypads. But since a new remote costs over $100, it's worth it...especially if you can find takers for the other keypads.

If your problem is more serious than the keypad, see Chaparral's Technical Support web page for information about their designated service facility, Birdview Satellite Service.

Birdview provides repairs for all Chaparral receivers except the Monterey 100c plus and the M200C receivers.
