Deleting an Outdated or Incorrect Satellite

Over time, satellites go out of service ("go dark") as their power supplies fail. When they go dark, you should delete them from your receiver. Another occasion for deleting a satellite is when you find that you have added a satellite and made a mistake like giving it the wrong letter-number code name. In either case, deleting it is the same simple procedure. However, in the second case, you have some extra steps to go through to re-add the satellite by its correct code.

To delete a satellite:

But wait! What do you do if you added a real satellite but gave it the wrong code? For instance, maybe you added Telstar 5 and called it W5 by mistake. You want to get the code corrected, but you don't want to lose the satellite in the process.

This one is easy with a little logical thought! The solution is to add a new, identical satellite with the correct name first, then delete the one with the wrong name.

Example - Correcting the name of Telstar 5 to T5 after adding it as W5.

  1. Using the [Satellite] key, select W5 as the satellite you're watching.
  2. Note the 4-digit location of W5. You will need this information later.
  3. Go to [Menu 9] and put the cursor on the line which says [Add New Satellite].
  4. Press [Enter].
  5. Using the keypad in the heel of your remote control, enter the characters T5. (The first key you press gives the letter, the second key gives it the number.)
  6. After the receiver tells you T5 has been added, change to [Menu 7]. (Note that the satellite receiver now thinks you're watching T5. In fact, what you've just done is to copy the satellite you were watching and give the copy a new name.)
  7. Move your cursor to the line [Dish Position].
  8. Press [Enter], then enter the 4-digit location for W4. The dish will go there. You now have added T5 and located it correctly.
  9. Return to [Menu 9] and move the cursor to [Erase Satellite].
  10. Press [Enter] and then the characters W4. You're done!
