- - - Golden Sky Announces July Subs - - -

Golden Sky Systems reported Friday that its DBS service added 15,200 net new subscribers last month.

Golden Sky, the second largest distributor of DirecTV in territories operated by the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperation, also reported that annual churn for the 12-month period ending June 30 was approximately 9.4 percent.

The July subscriber additions increased Golden Sky's total subscriber count, including multiple dwelling units, to 312,200 at the end of that month.


- - - DISH Reintroduces Premier League Soccer - - -

EchoStar Communications began offering English Premeir League Soccier on DISH-On-Demand Pay-Per-View this weekend.

EchoStar announced Friday that this new offering will be available through May of 2000 and will give soccer fans the opportunity to watch more than 60 matches. All Saturday matches start at 10 a.m. ET and all Sunday matches start at 11 a.m. ET. A season package costs $250, or viewers can pay $130 for Saturday-only or Sunday-only games. The packages feature live English and Spanish-language telecasts.

This is the second year the soccer package has been available to DISH Network customers. Last year, however, the games were only shown on Sunday.

EchoStar also announced Friday that DISH Network is offering two new customer promotions: ESPN Classic is offering DISH customers the chance to win a grand prize trip to the ESPN Club at Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and HBO is offering DISH customers an eight-day preview of all six HBO channels. - - - Pegasus Reports Financial Results - - -

Pegasus Communications reported its financial results last week for the three-month and six-month periods ending in June.

The company reported that its net revenues increased $32.6 million, or 70 percent over the same period last year, to $79.3 million for the quarter that ended June 30. Pre-marketing cash flow increased $49.8 million, or 62 percent from last year at this time. The company's net loss applicable to common stock increased $25.9 million to $48.7 million.

Pegasus President and CEO Marshall Pagon said, "Our DBS business continues to generate strong growth and possess excellent underlying fundamentals. Net subsriber additions were up 275 percent in the second quarter and 251 percent year-to-date compared to the respective periods last year."

Pegasus Communications is comprised of Pegasus Satellite Television and Pegasus Broadcast Television. Its DBS service is the largest independent provider of DirecTV in areas operated by the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative. It has approximately 580,000 subscribers in 36 states.


- - - PanAmSat Selects New Headquarters - - -

PanAmSat Corporation announced Friday that it has purchased a 57,000 square foot facility in Stamford, Conn., as the company's new worldwide corporate headquarters.

PanAmSat is currently headquartered in neighboring Greenwich, Conn. The company expects to relocate to redesigned state-of-the-art offices in Stamford by mid-2000.

R. Douglas Kahn, PanAmSat's president and chief executive officer, said, "PanAmSat is excited about the opportunity to create a new, modern headquarters environment in Stamford that will reflect our company's entrepreneurial culture and leadership role in the global satellite communications marketplace,"

PanAmSat is a leading commercial provider of satellite-based communications services. The company operates a global network of 19 satellites that enable the company to provide video and telecommunications services customers worldwide.

  • Tivo Adds Two New Vice Presidents -
    TiVo, an innovator of personal television, announced last week that Michael Mutz has been appointed vice president of sales and that Morgan Guenther has been appointed vice president of business development.

  • TASA Creates Media Recruitment Firm -
    The Media, Entertainment and Communications group of TASA/Johnson, Smith & Knisely has established an independent recruitment and consulting firm called The Cheyenne Group. This new entity will focus solely on recruiting executives for the television, publishing, music, new media, film, advertising and communications fields. The Cheyenne Group is based in New York but also has offices in Chicago and Los Angeles.

  • Blonder Tongue Promotes Nikoo, Sullivan -
    Blonder Tongue Laboratories has promoted Emily Nikoo to marketing manager, from interdiction-product manager. Neil Sullivan has joined Blonder Tongue as director of broadband markets. He had been vice president of operations at Jones Intercable.


- - - CORRECTION: DirecTV - - -

In addition to acquiring 122,000 net new subscribers last month, DirecTV also converted 52,000 PrimeStar customers, making the total number of new DirecTV customers for the month roughly 174,000. This information was inaccurate in Friday's news.
